  Arthur Clemon Whiting, the ninth and last child of Edwin Marion Whiting and Anna Maria Isaacson, was born April 15, 1904, in St Johns, Arizona. His boyhood was spent in Apache County. He attended school in St Johns and spent summers in the White Mountains at the old saw mill and Homestead.
  
  When Arthur was eleven years old he was badly bitten by a dog with rabies. The cure for this had just been discovered and he was treated in Los Angeles. He finished school at the old St Johns Stake Academy and attended college for half a year at the University of Utah. He then returned to St Johns and went to work in the Whiting Garage. Not long after Arthur turned nineteen he married Armina Gibbons. He left her at home for two years while he filled a mission in Canada. He served as secretary of the newly formed North Central States mission. He returned home to St Johns, Armina and married life. After twenty three years of marriage Arthur lost his wife with cancer. In 1956 Arthur was married for a second time to Betty Lepper who had taken charge of the children since Armina's death.
  
  Arthur has served in the Bishopric, served as stake Sunday School Superintendent, ward Sunday School Superintendent, and is now a counselor in the Snowflake Stake Presidency. He is active in the community having served as mayor of Holbrook, on the hospital board, on the Navajo County Welfare board, and as Navajo County Fair chairman.
  
  Arthur's three oldest children, Irene, Arthur Milton and Annette are married. His fourth child, David, died at three years of age. Norman, the fifth child, is serving on a mission in Chile, and Gary, the last, is home from college.
