Anna May Whiting was born at "The Meadows" north of St Johns, AZ. When she was 4 years old she moved with her parents to Mapleton, Utah where her fathers people lived.
May was a natural leader wherever she went. She was valedictorian of the eighth grade in Mapleton. She won a prize for a debate, another for being able to memorize more bible verses than anyone in the ward. she had a lovely voice and sang inthe choir, as well as at home parties. The family moved back to Arizone in 1901.
On Oct 5, 1905 May married Herbert Alonzo Berry in the Salt Lake Temple. She obtained enough education to pass the state exams to qualify as a school teacher. She taught school for 3 years to help her husband through Dental school . . . later on she helped him in his office as his assistant.
She was a faithful church worker and worked in the MIA and in Relief Society. She was a stake missionary in 3 stakes, then spent 2 years as a full time missionary assisting her husband, who was first counselor to Pres. F. W. Brown in the Central States Mission.
May and Herbert had 7 children, all received college educations. Two of the boys are MDs and one a dentist. At her death in 1955 she had 6 children, 32 grandchildren, and 4 greatgrandchildren
