Clarissa Cutler Kimball died in Grasshopper, Kansas Territory when on a mission to the Indians with her father Alpheus Cutler and others. His other daughter Emily also died while on this mission. Alpheus raised both of his grandsons Abram and Isaac. His daughters were plural wives of Heber Chase Kimball, but Alpheus would not let his daughters go with him to Utah. They repudiated their marriage to Kimball and remarried before their deaths.
