- Notes:
Francis Edgar Hulet was born January 5, 1892, at Summit, Utah. At five years of age his family moved to Alta, Wyoming, to escape the persecution then being waged against polygamists. That area of the country was newly developed, with a small population, and as a result his education was limited. However, he attended the early grades in Alta, the eighth grade in Dayton, Idaho, and two years of high school at Driggs, Idaho. His summers as a boy were spent mostly herding sheep, beginning when he was twelve.
He was called to serve a mission in South Africa from December 1913 to September 1916. Many frightening things happened during his mission, including his being held in detention camp in South Africa because of government immigration restrictions. He married Ella McEwen on October 3, 1917. They had been acquainted for a few years, and had corresponded while he was on his mission.
They went into the sheep business and farmed in Kimberly and Driggs, Idaho, in Milk River Valley, Montana, then back to Jerome and Wendell, Idaho. Eight children were born to them. Elise died in infancy. Ella passed away on August 22, 1954, after much suffering with cancer. This left a great void in his life. Church activity was the power which caused him to carry on. He and Ella had served as stake missionaries and found a great deal of satisfaction in that calling. He served many more years as stake missionary, and his church service includes that of bishop for seven years.
