1923 Vision
When I was 10 years old, Mother took me to Patriarch Evans. He said "You shall continue the work of Genealogy, already begun by your forefathers and your records shall be made perfect. You shall be visited by the spirits of the just.
It was 27 years later that they came to me, about the 23rd of February 1923. They came into the room by tens. I was awake in bed, and they came in until I began to wonder if I would smother. And then they began to leave. I felt so sad to see those good people leave, and finally when they were about all gone, there were four men standing in front of my bed, and behind them were two more, and two more, and two more, stretching for almost half a mile. One man did the speaking. He was my wife's great great grandfather, named Strasburg. He told me that they had prayed to the lord earnestly for permission to come and visit me and ask me to help my wife's family in genealogy and temple work. He told me that he was president of the Strasburg family organization in the prison part of the Spirit world. My wife's name was Strasburg before she was married, and that the other three standing there by my bed were president of the other three Family Organizations, of her grandparents: Armstrong, Honeck, and Larsen, and that all the others that I could see were also presidents of Family organizations in the Spirit World who might be helped if I would go to work and do my best in genealogy. But, if I didn't do this, it wouldn't matter too much, as it would only be a few years until somebody else would hunt up their genealogy and do their temple work.
Each of these presidents had been converted to the Church of Jesus Christ, some years before, and were men of calm faith.
It was about 2 O'clock in the morning when they visited me. Before this time I had tried a little bit about genealogy, but I didn't know how to go to work at it, and now I started to learn how to get genealogy. It took me about 6 years before I began to get results.

Visitation when writing the temple record
My mother, Euphrasia Cox Day, was in charge of the Family Temple records in Manti for twenty years before she died in 1944. They had Cox Temple Week at the Temple each year in January, and she wanted me to come to Manti each time to go through the Temple, for two sessions each day. Once, we did the Temple work for some people whom we thought were our grandparents and that evening she asked me to write in the Temple Book a record of what we had done, and when I tried to write it, they were there in the room and they were so glad to have the work in the Temple recorded, and they were so close to me that I had to speak to them and say, "You have to withdraw a little. I can't write." So then they withdrawed a little, and I started to write and it seemed to me like they took hold of my hand, and guided my hand in writing.

Visitation by John Upham
Later on, about 1937, the depression was so bad and we could only afford about one cent a meal, of wheat we had raised ourselves, boiled and a little milk to put on it. We could sell our milk for about 4 cents a gallon and we could get about 50 cents a bushel for wheat, and I worked many many days for 4 cents an hour. We couldn't afford coal, but I saved 4 cents an hour hauling wood and chopping it, instead of buying coal, and the trip to the Salt lake Temple cost me about $5.00. One evening I copied my Temple work in my other book. One thing I copied from some Temple record was the Temple work for my 6th great grandfather, John Upham, and when I got to the Temple and stood in line, with 300 others, they gave me John Upham's name to go through and perform his endowments, that day. I knew his work had been done, because I copied it the night before. My, I felt blue. I didn't want to make a Holy show of myself, and I knew there were so many people waiting. They wouldn't have time to listen to me, so I slowly picked up my grip, and started to go down the stairs to the dressing room, and I went down about 6 steps, and I met John Upham on the steps. He had been dead about 300 years. He was a tall slim man, about 5 ft. 10 1/2 inches with a long grey beard, cut off at the bottom, so it was shaped like a spade. He would weight about 158 lbs. He smiled at me, and he joked a little, and then he told me that when I die, I would feel quite lost for a short time, but that within 10 seconds after I die that he would meet me, and I would have a friend. I have since been given assurance that every one of about 40 thousand relatives whose records I have in my 18 big books will be my friend in the Spirit world. He went through the Temple with me that day. I never saw him but that once, and 1 never enjoyed a session in the Temple more than that.
