Edward Dyreng Cox "Mr. Wunnerful Wunnerful" Edward Dyreng Cox took his Last Big Flight from this mortal sphere on April 20, 2008 after a long acquaintance with arthritis and "progressive maturity." He was born July 8, 1922 in Manti, Utah to Eva Ruby Dyreng and Edward Parry Cox. He attended schools in Manti, graduated from Juab High School and the "University of Ephraim" (Snow College). Upon graduation from the Naval Aviation Cadet training as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Marine Air Corps, he married Jane Brinton, December 8, 1943 in the Manti Temple. During World War II he joined the Naval Air Corps and received his commission as a Dive Bomber pilot. The war ended the day he arrived in the Pacific theater. "The enemy heard I was coming and quit!" He returned home three weeks before his first daughter; Susan Jane (Barry) Mortenson was born, and continued his education at USAC (USU), graduating in 1948, where their second daughter, Patricia Ann (Terry) Jones arrived as a graduation present. Janyce (Lo) Nestman arrived in the early years of work for the Bureau of Land Management in Montana. He worked the remainder of his BLM career in Utah. One of his achievements was staking out section corners that determined the boundaries for the land to be preserved for Snow Canyon, Canyon Lands, Flaming Gorge and Research Park at the University of Utah. He was chairman of the board for the land designation, earning him the Interior Department Meritorious Service Award. Through his office the Ft. Douglas property was sold to the University of Utah for $2.50 an acre. He served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He volunteered for many years and later worked 13 years for the Church preparing maps for areas, missions, stakes, and wards. He is survived by his dear wife who served him lovingly and diligently through his declining and incapacitated years, his daughters and sons-in-law, grandchildren Dakon, Daren (Heather), Brandon (Lori), Brett (Honnelore) Chad, Tyler, Leslie, Keri, Kyle (Becki), Lo (Liz), Mardi (Terry) and 17 great grandchildren; also his sister Carol (James) Crane, brother Douglas D. Cox (Evelyn), nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister Virginia. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Bountiful 24th Ward Chapel, 720 E. 550 N. "Family and Friends Reunion" will be held Thurs., April 24th from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E., and Fri. at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 26th at 1 p.m. at the Manti, Utah City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurse and staff of Lakeview Hospital and South Davis Care Center. "I dearly love you all!" Condolences may be shared at www.lindquistmortuary.com
