Senior Of the Week: Glenna Amanda Cox Price
Glenna Amanda Cox Price, born Nov. 7, 1918 in Ferron to Arthur Ludene Cox and Theo Hitchcock Cox. Glenna was the second of six children, three boys and three girls. Her brothers are Merrill Cox of Provo, Donald V. Cox and Arthur Ludene (Art) Cox of Price. Her sisters are deceased. Glenna and Owen now have a large home on the West side of Orangeville.
Glenna married Owen Price Nov. 26, 1938, at Clawson in the home of A. Ludene Cox the Bishop of Clawson. They later went to the Salt LakeTemple to have their marriage sealed for time and all eternity Dec.28, 1944.
This sealing ceremony took place shortly before Owen Price was taken into the Army to serve in Europe during World War II. He was in some of the most severe fighting in that area. Glenna lived with her parents while Owen was away to the war. This was a difficult time for Glenna a young wife and mother with two small children.
Glenna and Owen Price have four children. They are as follows, David Owen Price born in Price, July 18, 1939, Connie Ann Price Wickman born Dec. 11, 1941, Glenna Patricia Huntington, born June 17, 1946 and Kathy Elaine Ockey born Feb. 6, 1949.
Living with Owen Price who was a construction worker caused them tomove many times. They lived in Ogden, Orem, Sunnyside, and Clawson to name a few. In the beginning they lived in a small one room, rented camp trailer near an orchard, while Owen worked at building Hill Air Force Defense Depot near Ogden. She remembers the wind blew most of the time. That is until the owner came and hauled away the trailer without notifying Owen or his wife. They then lived in the back of a pickup truck until better accommodations were found. They lived in a small house in Sunnyside. Glenna purchased a home in Clawson for $300 and Owen was working at Sunnyside driving to and from work each day. They lived in that home 38 years.
Owen was away from home working 16 hour days in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming on construction jobs, which meant Glenna was home raising the children. She on occasion would go visit Owen at these construction sites.
In 1955 when Glenna and Owen started the Owen D. Price Construction Company, Glenna was the record keeper. When Owen and his brother owned a Uranium Mine she assisted by keeping the books. Glenna has been a strength and support of Owen in all that he has done over the years. Glenna has always been a very thoughtful caring wife, mother, and grandmother.
She held many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, such as primary president, relief society counselor and teacher. The position that she enjoyed the most was ward organist.Several members commented that she played the organ beautifully. She was privileged to take organ lessons from Robert Cundick when he was serving as Mormon Tabernacle Choir organist.
Glenna enjoys keeping up her home and garden. Over the years Glenna entertained many people in their home. Unfortunately Glenna's health has declined and she is now being cared for by her husband and the Ferron Health Care facility.
