  Sylvester Cox was born September 15, 1857, at Manti, to Frederick Walter and Emeline Whiting Cox.---
  "Vet" was a builder. He, with other pioneers, had to build their own homes, barns, bridges, yards, canals, roads, and fences. His sons and some of his grandsons are carpenters. He engineered and built the Straight Canyon Road. He was an excellent student throughout his life- a living encyclopedia to his children. He was also quite a comedian, poet, storyteller, and singer. He was instrumental in establishing the Emery Stake Academy and on its School Board. He was among the first in the valley to raise bees, and had them most all his life. He was Sunday School and MIA Superintendent and served an LDS mission. He died November 9, 1935.
