Dean L. Taylor
Dean Leroy Taylor, 78, died Saturday, May 26, 2001 at his home in Lake Shore after a short illness. He was born on May 19, 1923 in Orangeville, the son of Jarred Leroy Taylor and Della Mae Cox Taylor. He married Bernice MacKay on January 20, 1945 in Yuma, Ariz. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 22, 1945.
Dean attended school in Orangeville and graduated from Central High School in Orangeville in 1941. He served his country during World War II in the Marine Corps from 1941 til 1945. He served in the South Pacific and participated in four major battles. After the war, Dean worked as a carpenter in Brawley, CA and in 1950 he went to work for Jex Lumber in Spanish Fork where he worked from 1950 til 1971. Dean owned and operated Taylor Cabinets in Lake Shore for many years and was known for his perfection and beautiful custom cabinets.
He was a member of the Spanish Fork Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed fishing, camping and enjoyed fixing things and was able to repair just about anything. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as first and second counselor in two bishoprics. He also served as a stake missionary, as assistant Stake Clerk, as a High Councilman for 10 years, as a ward clerk and Bishop of the Lake Shore Ward. He was a home teacher and served five years as a worker in the Provo Temple. Dean was on the planning and development of the girls home, "Camp KoHoLoWo" in Payson canyon.
Survivors include his wife of Lake Shore, two sons and four daughters: David D. (Janice) Taylor of Lake Shore; Peggy Ann Taylor, of Spanish Fork; Lynda (Ron) Pugh, of Spanish Fork; Carol (Jeff) Thomsen, of Sandy; Sandra (Boyd) Sabin, of West Mountain; Brent (Laura) Taylor, of Lake Shore; 25 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; three brothers and one sister: Barbara (Frank) Baudack, of Salt Lake; Jack (Janet) Taylor, of Huntington; Vaughn (Betty) Taylor, of Las Vegas; Geary (MaryLee) Taylor, of Huntington, and a brother-in-law: Lewis Dimick, of Wellington. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Carol Taylor and Betty T. Dimick.

Dean was a Marine in World War II. He fought on Guadalcanal and many other places in the Pacific Islands; was sent to New Zealand [p. 39] for 6 months in a rest camp. He gained all the promotions until he wasTech. Sgt.; was overseas 27 months. He had been very ill with malaria. After returning to the United States he married Bernice MacKay. They lived in California until March 1950, when they moved to Spanish Fork, Utah. They bought an unfinished home and completed it. After living there a short time, he was made counselor in the bishopric.
