Obituary: Bernice MacKay Taylor
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Bernice MacKay Taylor, passed from this life Sunday, June 8, 2003, having lived a good life. She endured to the end through many battles with health, including the crippling effects of arthritis.
Bernice was born on November 8, 1925 in Provo, Utah, the daughter of John W MacKay and Wanda Chatwin. She was raised in Provo and Ephraim, Utah. She graduated from high school in Brawley, California, where she met her eternal sweetheart, Dean L. Taylor, while he was serving as a Marine. Dean and Bernice were married on January 20, 1945 in Yuma, Arizona. Their marriage was solemnized two months later in the Salt Lake Temple on March 22, 1945.
Bernice helped her husband, Dean, in building their own cabinet business, Taylor Cabinets. She was always an integral part in his work and church responsibilities, supporting him as a wonderful wife. She was very active and busy in civic and church projects. She will never be forgotten in her great work with the "Golden Gleaners" church group and as Director of the Singing Mothers. She held positions in the Relief Society, Primary, and was ward organist many years.
She is survived by her two sons and four daughters: David D. (Janice) Taylor of Indianola, Peggy Ann Taylor of Spanish Fork, Lynda (Ron) Pugh of Spanish Fork, Carol (Jeff) Thomsen of Sandy, Sandra (Boyd) Sabin of West Mountain, Brent (Laura) Taylor of Lake Shore; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly (Lynn) Youd of Lake Shore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Taylor.
