He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and while stationed near Belfast, Ireland, met my mother. They married in Belfast on Dec. 12, 1944. I was born in Belfast, Ireland on October 31, 1945. My father was discharged from the Army and subsequently was hired by the city of El Cerrito as a policeman. I am the oldest of eight children. My mother never remarried after my father's disappearance.
My father, age 41, and two other men when fishing to the Farralon Islands in the Pacific Ocean, about 26 miles out from San Francisco in Feb. 1963. They never returned and were never found, probably carried away by the currents. I was 17 at the time, and my brother and sisters were ages 16, 14, 12, 9, 7 and 4. My mom was 38. There was no life insurance or savings, so we made do and carried on.
