Calvin and JoAnn Cox
Calvin and JoAnn Cox passed away Aug. 15, 2003 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident while traveling to the Manti Temple.
Calvin was born Mar. 24, 1934 in Orangeville, to Donald T. and Helen Fox Cox. JoAnn was born Nov. 23, 1934 in Castle Dale to William Morris and Maree Rasmussen Peacock. They were married May 24, 1951 in Orangeville. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on Feb. 25, 1978.
Calvin was a hard worker. His early years were spent working on his father's sheep herd with his brother, Gary. He worked as a miner in local coal mines and the potash mine in Moab. He worked in construction for 40 years, starting his own general contracting business, C & C Improvement, where he enjoyed working with his sons.
JoAnn was a gifted and accomplished musician, teaching and performing her entire life. She played in dance bands, beginning at the age of twelve. She composed many songs, one of the first being the Emery High school song. She was involved in numerous community acts of service including singing at over 2,500 funerals, and playing the accordion and/or piano at senior citizen events and in schools throughout Carbon and Emery counties.
Calvin and JoAnn were active members of the LDS Church and served in various callings and leadership positions. They enjoyed activities with family, including fishing and boating with their children and grandchildren. They served in the Manti LDS Temple for 10 wonderful years.
They are survived by their children, Paul and Laurie Cox, Moab; Keith and Rachel Cox, Spring Glen; Catherine Cox, Layton; Melody and Kelly Kimber, Riverton; Helen and Michael McCandless, Huntington; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Calvin is survived by sister, Jane and Pete Jensen; brothers, Steven and Rhonda Cox and Von and Betty Frandsen, and sisters-in-law Della Cox and Rayola Cox. JoAnn is survived by sister, Evelyn Huntsman and brother, George and Arlene Peacock. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Jennie Frandsen Cox, brothers Gary and Garth, sister-in-law, Darla Cox, and infant sister, Renee. JoAnn was preceded in death by parents, step-father, Guy S. Ware, brother-in-law, Howard Huntsman and daughter-in-law, Deborah Arehart Cox.
Services will be held Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Helper LDS Stake Center, located at 150 Ridgeway, Helper. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, 680 East 100 South Price, and one hour prior to service at church. Interment will be at Orangeville Cemetery
