Ida was killed in an automobile accident near Fish Lake, Utah. Grandma Carol Holt was in the car with her when the accident happened and it was determined that it was shorter to drive to Beaver to her parents house, than to drive to Manti, where she was living. She died there in Beaver in the same room where she had been born 49 years before. Carol was 18 at the time of her mothers death

PLEASURE TRIP TERMINATED IN TRAGIC DEATH
Monday night or early Tuesday morning Manti was shocked with news of sorrow, The sad tiding that Mrs. Ida Reid, beloved wife of Bishop E. T. Reid, had been killed in an automobile accident in Clear Creek Canyon, came as a bolt of anguish from an unexpected source, filling the hearts of everyone with sadness. As near as can be learned the accident
occurred about as follows:
Thinking it both wise and pleasurable to take a few days of relaxation from their strenuous duties, Mr. and Mrs. Reid and two children, Carol and Marcia, packed their car for a pleasant trip to Fish Lake. About five o'clock Monday afternoon they left home. In happy spirits they journeyed southward, and as they traveled along they decided to extend their trip to Beaver, the birthplace of Mrs. Reid. It was in this happy mood that the family traveled through Clear Creek Canyon.
Shortly after crossing the top the dreadful accident occurred. A bolt or something in the steering apparatus broke throwing the car out of control on the down grade. It picked up momentum and swerving to the right crashed into the hillside, turning over and over, carrying the helpless passengers with it, one the mother to her death. All were stunned and unconscious when they were found by a forest ranger, who came along about five minutes later. When Mr. Reid regained consciousness the ranger was making an impromptu stretcher on which to carry the unfortunate victims of the crash to his own car.
Although bewildered and heartsick, the father assisted in carrying his wife and children to the car. The only words that Mrs. Reid spoke were said while she was being placed in the stretcher, ""You are killing me," she muttered. Although all haste was made in getting to Beaver where help could be obtained, Mrs. Reid died in her mother's home shortly after midnight. Mr. Reid and the children suffered severe bruises, not however of a serious nature. They are fully recovered. The sad news of the accident was telephoned from Beaver by Superintendent Reid shortly after the death of his wife.
The two daughters, Melva and Dixie, were not informed of their mother's death until morning. The body was brought home Tuesday about noon. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Center Ward Chapel.

Ida Farnsworth Reed Fatally Injured in Auto
Accident Mrs. Ida Reed, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Farnsworth, was fatally injured in an automobile accident on the Clear Creek Highway about 8 o'clock Monday evening, while enroute to Beaver, dying at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Sarah A. Shepherd, about four hours later.
Mrs. Reed in company with her husband, Edgar Reed, and two children, were on an outing from their home in Manti. They had intended to go to Fish Lake, but reaching the division in the road in Sevier county, decided to come to Beaver instead. While coming down grade on this side of the divide on the Clear Creek highway, the car slipped out of gear on the dugway. It gained so great a momentum that Mr. Red was unable to stop it with the breaks, and fearing going over the dugway, he turned the car into the bank. The car overturned, and while Mr. Reed and children escaped injury, his wife received a fractured skull and a badly crushed breast and shoulder.
A Forest Ranger from Fillmore arrived soon after the accident, and brought the party to Cove Fort. Jack Barton and party returned from a trip to Bryce Canyon arrived and, after phoning for Doctor Hopkins, started to town with the injured woman. The doctor met them at Wildcat hill, and found that Mrs. Reed condition was serious, and she was brought on to Beaver. Not wishing to alarm her parents, she was taken to the home of her aunt, Mrs. Sarah A. Shepherd, where she passed away about an
hour and a half later.
Ida Farnsworth was born in Beaver, April 27, 1880. She attended school at the Murdock academy and later at the B.Y.U. in Provo. She was married Sept. 14, 1902, to Edgar Reed, who is superintendent of schools in Manti and also bishop in the Manti stake.
She leaves, beside the husband, six children; two boys and four girls. One son in now on a mission in England. The remains were taken to Manti the day following the accident, and where the funeral services were held yesterday afternoon. The grief stricken parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Farnsworth, accompanied the body back to Manti to attend the funeral.
Harriet Farnsworth, a sister, and Clair Reed, a brother-in-law, came down from Salt Lake City on Learning of the accident, and also accompanied the funeral party to Manti.
