IX) Capt. Abraham Toppan, eldest son of Edward Toppan (VIII), was born atNewbury, October 14 , 1744, and died
at sea, April, 1782.
Capt. Toppan was engaged in the West Indian trade. On May 15, 1781, hearrived at Newburypor t in the brig Vulture with
the small pox on board and was quarantined at Plum Island.
Capt. Toppan served in the Revolutionary War, with his uncle Col. MosesLittle, at Bunker Hill .
He was captain of the ship Ruby, dying on board ship of yellow fever, andwas buried at sea, A pril, 1782.
He married Mary Hunt, January 9, 1773.
Their children were:
1. Ephraim Hunt born February 5, 1774.
2. Abraham, born November 6,
