Earnest J. Whiting
On Feb 16, 1889 in Mapleton, Utah was born a red headed baby boy to the union of Edwin Marion Whiting and Anna Maree Isaacson; he was their fourth child.
Earnest started school at Mapleton, and attended school there until he was about 12 years of age. The kids teased him a great deal about his red hair and freckles. They would call him "Rusty" or even "Rusty Frying Pan" and would pretend to warm their hands over his flame colored hair. He had so many freckles they would ask him if it was bran all over his face. For obvious reasons he always hated his red hair and freckles. In spite of all this tormenting he grew up friendly and good natured and got along well with people and had a great many friends.
In the summer after he was 12 years old their family left Mapleton and went to St Johns, Arizona to live. Not long after arriving in St Johns his father bought a farm in a place near St Johns called "the meadows" where they lived for 6 or 7 years, then they moved into St Johns.
He went to high school in St Johns and in the fall after he was 18 years old he went to Logan, Utah for a year of schooling.
Earnest received a call to go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to the Eastern States Mission. The most of his mission was spent in the state of West Virginia. He was set apart for his mission by Apostle Heber J. Grant on Dec 7, 1909. He filled an honorable mission and was released to come home Dec 9, 1911
On Sept 30, 1913 he married he petite dark eyed Beryl Johnson. They were married in El Paso, Texas by her father, William D. Johnson Jr., their honeymoon was a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah to go to the temple to be sealed for time and all eternity. They had 5 children.
During the first 13 years they lived at a sawmill in the White Mountains in Arizona. Then they moved to Holbrook where they lived for 5 years. In partnership with his brothers they operated an automobile agency and garage, this partnership still exists. In 1933 they moved back to Holbrook where he is still active and lives, works and enjoys the church. He is also still a member of and active in the Whiting Brother Corporations
