Georgene Evans 1923 ~ 2007
On Friday April 13, 2007, age 84, Georgene Evans died, at home surrounded by her family, after a brief battle with gallbladder cancer. She is the daughter of George "E" and Viola Cahoon. Born in Gannett, Idaho and later moved to Salt Lake City where she grew up in the yellow brick home next to the brickyard. She graduated with the class of '40 from Granite High, and later contributed to the war effort by serving in the Navy as a Wave. Upon her return she fell in love with and married her hiking and tennis buddy, Ken; later to be sealed together with their family in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they reared five children, and traveled the world. Together they loved and supported their family, and together they worshipped God. As a member of The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully in many callings including a mission to India and Sri Lanka with Ken. Georgene was a faithful traveling companion, paddling the canoe, climbing ancient ruins, and leaving her mark all over the world. She was bigger than life in so many ways, and left an indelible impression on her grandchildren. Her dance moves were indescribable. She could paint a picture with mere words on paper. Many a life was enhanced and even changed by her inspiration through writing notes, letters, and histories. Everyone felt like they were her best friend, and practical advice and her big soft hugs were sought after. She was steady, faithful, loyal, fun, and optimistic. She was the last leaf on her family tree to fall. Preceding her in death were her parents; and siblings, Venus Golay, Sally Wettstein, and Lynn Cahoon. She's survived by her husband; and five children, Dennis (Tracy), Randy, Leslie (Lorren) Robison, Claudia (Craig) Kaelin, Tricia (Michael) Ely; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 20, 2007, 12 noon at the Cottonwood 11th Ward (1830 E 6200 S). Friends may call from 9-11:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
