Leroy Cyril Schank, 76, slipped quietly away from this life on January 25, 2007. Born on December 7, 1930 to Leroy Christian and Prudence Verona Cox Schank, Cyril was a life long resident of the Lahontan Valley.
Cyril was involved in agriculture all his life. After graduation from Churchill County High School in 1948 he married his sweetheart, Delva Hendrix in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on October 6, 1949. Together they shared 57 years, 6 children, many trips throughout the world, civic responsibilities, and service in their Church.
In 1949, Cyril was awarded the American Farmer Degree, the highest honor bestowed by the Future Farmers of America. He served on many local and State boards including Farm Bureau, Associated Nevada Dairyman, and on the Churchill County Commission.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Bishop of both the Fallon 1\super st\nosupersub and 2nd Wards. He and Delva served a mission for the Church in Korea in 1995-97. The last 9 years they have served as ordinance workers in the Oakland and Reno Temples. At the time of his death he was serving as the Fallon 5\super th\nosupersub Ward organist.
He operated the family farming business in a partnership with his dad and later his son from 1949 until his retirement in 1994. Even in retirement he continued to work side by side with his son and grandsons in the family farming business. He never tired of the magnificence of the soil and looked forward to the spring of each year when the Lahontan Valley would shed the effects of winter and turn green.
Cyril was always willing to accept new challenges. He was eager to try new farming techniques. He was self taught on the piano and organ. He learned to use and became quite proficient on the computer.
He will always be remembered for his always present smile, kindness, and thoughtfulness. His children and grand children will always be grateful for the example he showed in being a hard worker and productive citizen of this community.
Cyril was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother Stanley. He is survived by his wife, Delva; sons Ernest (Carmen), Craig (Debbie), and Donald (Kenna), Schank all of Fallon, Mark (Carol) Schank of Tolono, IL; and Daughters, Noreen (Chuck) Davis of Reno and Eileen (Eric) Oxborrow of Benjamin, UT, Sister Rose Marie Hatch of Clinton, UT, and brother Dean Schank of Las Vegas, NV; 20 grand children and 10 great grand children; and numerous nieces and nephews.
