- Notes:
My father, Lynn Sullivan Whiting, was born Nov 19, 1893, in Mapleton, Utah. He married Lola Gladys Waite Apr 28, 1917. They are the parents of ten children, 6 of them married and raised children.
A few things I remember most of my father are his love for his family in everything he did, business or pleasure, and he would always talk things over with us. And he always took his family with him wherever he went. He would have quite a time with the school teachers taking us out of school so much. He would always say the trips were educations, as long as his family was together. How he loved to have mother make her raisin pie and ice cream, and have some of the family stop by and visit awhile. It seemed like a holiday when Uncle Art and Uncle Ralph would come up from Holbrook and Dad would come dashing home and tell mom they were in town and would be by after while for pie and ice cream. They would sit and talk a while, and tell stories and jokes.
I think of him working so hard irrigating in the hot sun, mowing hay and hoeing weeds. He never sent us kids out to hoe alone. He said it just isn't right to send kids out to do that kind of work alone.
Every one who knew dad will remember his stories and jokes. He loved to tell of his acting in the plays with his brothers and sisters. Effie was his favorite niece. I think they sort of had an understanding or feeling for each other. Maybe because the sickness they both had most of their lives.
We had a cot in the kitchen and mother would hold my fathers head and wait on him. She never left his side while he was having one of his sick spells. He would say, "I could never go through one of these without you, Gladys."
Mother and Father were very devoted to each other. They enjoyed their family together. We had religion in our home. We had family night. We would read the Book of Mormon, and we always had family prayers.
My father died Feb 11, 1936 in St. Johns, Arizona.
