- Notes:
I, Minnie Whiting Priestly, was born Sept 5, 1899, at Mapleton, Utah. My parents were Edwin Marion Whiting and Anna Marie Isaacson Whiting. I have five brothers and three sisters. All my sisters had dark brown hair and I alone stood among them with bright red hair, freckles and all that goes with red hair. One of my brothers had red hair too, but not so bright as mine, nor so many freckles.
When I was six years old I started school in St. Johns, my family moving there from Utah when I was two years old. My first teacher was Ethel Farr Whiting and a lovely one she was. I finished grade school in St. Johns. Also I finished four years of high school in the Church Academy in St Johns in 1918.
I worked a year then went to Flagstaff to school. Later I went to Salt Lake to business college, then to summer school at UCLA in Los Angeles. I taught school three and a half years and loved it. I attended two summer schools in Flagstaff.
After a very full and happy single life, for I did enjoy a very happy home and a world of good friends, I married Donald Adamson Sylvester Priestley. After we had been married about nine and a half years we had one son, Don Edwin, born June 1, 1937. He was born after a long illness I had with my heart and I had spent many months in bed with heart trouble.
I think more than any other reason my husband and I became interested in each other was because we both sang. We had years of enjoyment singing. After we had been married about eight years Mark E. Peterson of the Council of the Twelve and others who were in charge of the Deseret News asked Don to come back to help with the paper for a while. He took a leave of absence from the Times in Los Angeles and after being there for a while we decided to stay in Salt Lake.
On Nov 17, 1845, after seventeen years of marriage, Don passed away. I decided to move back to Los Angeles to live. Our son married Roberta Ann Sorenson and they have one daughter and one son.
Note: Last year Aunt Myn was honored by the ward, stake, and general board MIA for 45 years service to the young men and women of the church.
